[Solved] Frustating experience with blogger for custom domain

We found an existing order for this domain. Please contact support.

This error message have been killing for the last couple of days(Solution here. Last weekend I finally managed some time to sit with this blog and customize the design and everything that I was supposed to do way before ago. As a first step, I tried to purchase a domain name for my blog, so I can switch to a new custom domain leaving *.blogspot.com subdomain. So when I picked a domain name, checked it's availability and found out it was available, I was very happy. But the happiness didn't last for long. As soon as I proceeded to enter billing information in order to purchase the domain, one of my friend knocked at the door. So I canceled the process for that time hoping to do it again sometimes later. But little did I know what was waiting for me!

After a while when I was free again, I tried again to buy the domain, and got the above error message. The funny thing was, there was no other mention of how to contact support or which support it is. Since the problem arouse while I tried to purchase domain from my blogger dashboard, I went to seek help from blogger help forum only to found out that this has been an issue of Google Apps. And even funnier thing is, I still see that particular domain as available. I frantically started searching the internet and found out that I am not the only one facing this problem. I asked in some of the threads which is like 2-3 months old, to know if anybody have this problem solved and found out that none has this problem fixed. But I tried to search in GoDaddy and Enom separately to see if those domains are available, and found out that they still are. I am pretty much sure that if I purchase it from them directly I will get the domain, I desired. So the problem is definitely within Google Apps. Also I sent an email to customer support and also still waiting for a reply from them. I will wait until next weekend for customer support to respond after that I will purchase it from GoDaddy itself. Unfortunately I had to go through the process of creating Cnames and other records which I was trying to avoid desperately.

So please help me spread this word, so that Google fixes this bug. If you also face this problem or you want blogger to fix this please click this link to re-tweet this.

Update 1: Experiencing the power of twitter, caught the attention of a PM at Blogger.

Update 2: Steps to reproduce the problem
1. Go to Blogger.com to your dashboard -> Settings -> Publishing -> Custom Domain.
2. Check availability of the domain and perform step 1 and step 2 and click "I accept. Procced to Google Check out" at the end of step 2.
3. Close the window. Restart the process. You cannot anymore buy the domain from blogger, as it's already gotten into some sort of deadlock.

Update 3: Solved
Finally the problem solved for me. I didn't have to do anything, just waited for 7days. Yes on the 8th morning I found out that I can register again, so I registered my domain under my name, Wohooo. Meanwhile if you don't have the time to wait, just go to Godaddy, purchase the domain you desire and follow these steps to obtain your desired domain redirected to your blogspot blog. I hope this solves the problem and you don't have to wait without any hope for a week like I did.
Happy blogging !

Watch meteor shower from USA

There is a possibility of catching a dazzling treat on Tuesday and Wednesday, (11th and 12th August, 2009), with the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower if weather permits. Meteors are bits of dust or rock that collide with Earth's atmosphere and heat up gas particles to produce a glowing trail. A handful of meteors can be seen each hour on any clear night, but during a meteor shower dozens may be visible.

The Perseid shower occurs each year when the Earth passes through a stream of debris shed by the comet Swift-Tuttle, which orbits the sun once every 130 years or so and last passed through the inner solar system in 1992.

The best time to catch the shower may be around 4:00 a.m. on August 12, when meteor numbers may get a slight boost as the Earth passes by an additional stream of debris left by the comet in 1610. On a clear night, an average of 60 meteors can be seen per hour close to the Perseids' peak. This year, the number may be lower because the moon, which is approaching its last quarter, will rise at about the same time as the shower is expected to begin. Every evening this week, the shower should start around 11 p.m. local time as the Perseus constellation rises, and the number of visible meteors should increase as the evening progresses to peak before dawn.

The meteors will appear all over the sky, so the best strategy for viewing the shower is to lie down and stare at as large a patch of sky as possible. Observers will want to point their gaze away from the moon to reduce its effect on night vision.

Although the best Perseid viewing is in the northern hemisphere, some viewers just south of the equator may also be able to catch a glimpse.

In the UK, the best times to see the Perseids are likely to be on the morning of 12 August before dawn and from late evening on the 12th through to the early hours of the 13 August.

Google books joins bing, win a sony reader

Now we all have seen how microsoft is spending money to attract users, but now google books joins the race. They have created a game which will help you to win Sony Readers everyday for the next 10 days. Google books joining with bingEach day 3persons will be able to win the book readers, but for the first 20,000 contestants the consolation price is a laptop sticker. The questions are really easy, and just need one google search and you'll find the answer at the first result of google search.

Like Bing cashback contest this contest of google is also limited to US residents. But unlike bing it requires a correct answer and without the 5 correct choices you cannot enter your information for the contest and submit your answers. By the way at the end google asks you to write a creative thought in 50 words on what the experience of reading will be like in 100 years. Funny eh? I wonder whether 100 years or even 50 years ago somebody could imagine about todays reading experiences? Electronic books blogs and websites have been taking over the printed ones which lasted a hell lot of time. I don't know may be in 100 years we will have something that even the sci-fi movie guys can't even imagine. Anyway, enough of crap, start playing and try to win a sony reader. And in case you are wondering it's the one that is in the picture on the left.

How to get bing cashback contest answers

Bing, Microsoft's google killer, has been trying to get people's attention by creating lots of prizes and contests. It started when Microsoft Australia burried ten grand in some place around the internet and you needed bing to find it out. Now they are offering a cashback trivia program on Twitter that will see one winner a day walk away with a Bing backpack and a $500 Visa cash card to use for back-to-school shopping. The contest will be running for seven days and each day one lucky person will get a 500$ cash back card. So if you are not amongst ones who are already competing for the 500$ prize, just join.

In order to join, you need to follow @cashback. Each weekday, we will tweet a new Bing cashback- trivia question. Whoever @replies with the right answer within one hour becomes eligible to win. But they have not specified the time when they are going to post the question. So you'll have to be a bit watchful about that. Now it will just be like a lucky draw or something, because I believe the questions will relatively be easy so that it sparks interest from everyone. But even if you can't find the answers you can just follow #cashbackpack on twitter and you'll get the answers. Or you can visit this link when they asked a question and get your answer from there. Because everybody is supposed to put #cashback tag on the answer's tweet. So what are you waiting for, lets start tweeting ;-) and don't forget to follow me if you start a twitter account.

Sit tight

Dear readers,
After long time I am going to change a lot of things in my blog. For example looks, navigation, commenting etc. In order to do so, following week you might experience lots of broken things in this site. Just sit tight and be with me, I assure you it will be a better experience after the overhauling process is complete. RSS readers might find same posts appear quite a few time in their reading. I hope you'll forgive these inconveniences.

When I love to be proved wrong...

Today, I saw an amazing video. Thanks to shoshi and Enamul for the tip. I am pretty much sure if you are well aware of the roads and highways of the internet you've already seen this, if you don't then you'll see this at the end of this post. Now lets talk about what was so amazing about this video. Some facts :

  • It's about a 47 Year old lady, Susan Boyle, who tried her luck at a talent show named "Britain Got Talent"

  • The video is uploaded on 11th April and till 17th April it's been watched 19,633,004 times.

  • I have checked the same video appeared in youtube many times and almost all of them have view count in 7 digits. So I can assume so far in 6 days it's been watched roughly 40,000,000 times in total.

  • Which means about 77 people were watching it every second after it's been uploaded on the internet.

  • She already had a page in wikipedia

  • Googling her name returned 3,490,000 results

  • And she already had a facebook fan page and more than a thousands fan club

Amazing huh? So what makes someone so popular in these five days? Within this short time she just became a heroe from zero. Now it's not that she did something extra ordinary or spectacular. What she did is just took part in a talent show, Britain got talent, and sung well. I am pretty sure lots of people do well in these talent shows every year and every channel. But neither of them was ever so became so popular or such a hype. But what made her so exceptional then? I think her appearance and her age. To most of people like me what she did was extra-ordinary. When we saw her at the vdo for the first time, we were expecting something old , shabby and not to mention a somewhat crappy ok, may be a normal performance. And boy how wrong were we! What she produced was awesome. She had an amazing gifted voice. But that didn't make the trick, she proved all of us wrong and that is what clicked the trigger. We were quick too judge her by her appearance and she proved us wrong. If you watch the video carefully you'll find that everybody was having fun from susan's initial appearance. One of the spectator literally raised her eyebrow when she heard what susan who to become in future. But in the end everybody seemed happy. Because like me to everyone else, it was like a story, like a movie, a fantasy. An underdog, a deprived person winning it all. That's her made her susan boyle and that's what made her popular. Susan Boyle, take my salute... Others, enjoy the video :)
